Air / Mold / Radon
Are you worried about your indoor air quality? Lets talk about it!
Mold and Air Testing: Mold can cause all kinds of health issues in adults and especially children. I decided to take a mold course which further taught me about mold, what it needs to grow, ways to prevent mold, how to inspect for mold and ways to test mold. This included learning how to do air testing. One of the best ways to tell if you have mold is to test if the mold count in your air is high. This requires special equipment to obtain samples and a few days to send samples to a 3rd party lab.
Radon Testing: Radon is a colourless, odourless gas that can seep undetected into your home and cause lung cancer. Protect your family by testing your home for radon. Radon is a radioactive gas that is produced naturally by the breakdown of uranium in the ground. Since radon can't be seen, smelled, or tasted, it can get into your home undetected. In outdoor air, radon is diluted and therefore not a concern. But in confined spaces like your house, radon can build up to high levels and become a health risk. Radon can enter your home any place where the house touches the soil and there is an opening.
Ozone Shock Treatment (Odour Removal)
Do you need to get rid of an odour? Ozone shocking can get rid of smells from your home, car, daycares, office, etc. Odours from animals, cigarettes, cooking and sporting equipment can be eliminated. Give me a call and lets discuss.
Ozone Odor Removal: After learning about air quality; I decided to take an Ozone course and get Ozone certified. Ozone, when used PROPERLY, can clean air and any surface that air touches. How does it do this? Ozone is O3 and Oxygen is O2. My ozone machine turns the O2 in the air into O3 which fills the designated space. The third atom then wants to leave the other two atoms so it finds bacteria to attach to (which is where smell and bad air come from, like mold spores). Two things happen at this point, the third atom kills the bacteria when it comes into contact with it and then finds another single oxygen atom to attach to which then stabilizes and becomes O2 again. So when the cleaning is finish, you are left with bacteria being eliminated and oxygen to breath. That’s it!!

Home Inspector Certification: Most people don’t know anything about Home Inspector Certification.
Q: What do I NEED to become an inspector and own a home inspection business?
A: Nothing. There is currently no nationwide or PEI requirement to become a home inspector. Therefore choose an inspector wisely.
Q: Do I need to be part of an association and which association is best?
A: No association is required. Home inspection associations are governing bodies to help control, educate and validate individuals as home inspectors. Therefore it is good practice to join one and keep in good standing or this could be a sign your inspection is lacking somewhere. Each association has its own (normally similar) membership requirements, education requirements and code of ethics. I have looked into many associations and the reason I am an InterNACHI Member is because they are one of the oldest, biggest, most recognized and have the best continuing education available.
So, as a member in good standing of InterNACHI I am a CPI (Certified Professional Inspector) working toward becoming a CMI (Certified Master Inspector). Other Inspectors will have other initials like RHI (Registered Home Inspector) which is another associations version of a CPI and so on.
In conclusion, The Association doesn’t make the inspector but the Inspector you choose could make a big difference on a very important decision in your life.
